Dam it

Brazil goverment has granted the last authorization for the construction  of a dam in river Xingu at Belo Monte. It will be the third largest in the world, after Thee Gorges (Xina) and Itaipu-Dam (Brazil-Paraguay).

It will cost 16 USD billion (well this is the initial budget, but you know there's always overrun), and  represets a very important jump forward for the economy of Brazil.

These indigenous protest because the construction will imply the flooding of areas in the Amazonas, but this cannot be helped. It happened the same with Three Gorges:

and Brazil could not be less than Xina (we are competing in the global market).

No matter how inefficient the Belo Monte dam could be (it's forecasted that in the dry season it will only produce 10% of its installed capacity), or the enviromental damage it will cause (we do not have to even consider the small detail of flooding indigenous barracks)

We are progressing! (and do not forget to pray for rain)
